W4ORS
My name is Christopher John Palmgren. My amateur radio callsign is a
vanity call - W4ORS (previously KE4ONB for almost 4
years). My orginal ham call was assigned to me on July 15, 1994, and re-issued as
vanity W4ORS on January 7, 1998.
I was born January 1974 in Chattanooga, TN.
I have always lived in the scenic Chattanooga,
TN, area except for an almost 5 year stay in Knoxville, TN. I have one younger
brother, Donald, 29. Also included in the
family is one dog: Precious (believe me...I didn't name her) and one cat: Catfish (the
only one I named).
I am a 1997 graduate of The University of
Tennessee, Knoxville. I currently am employed by WRCB-TV 3
in Chattanooga as a news producer. WRCB is
Chattanooga's NBC affiliate.

I lived in Lookout
Mountain, TN (1974-75), Lookout
Mountain, GA (1975-87) and I now reside in the Hixson, TN, area (1987-present),
excluding the 4 1/2 years I resided in Knoxville (1992-97). I have attended the
following schools: Fairyland
Elementary, McCallie School, Hixson Jr. High, Hixson High, and eventually earned a B.S. in
Communications from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville
with my major in broadcasting and my minor in geography.
I served as president of the Ocoee Amateur
Radio Society in fiscal years 1998-99 and 1999-2000. I hold membership
in the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club, W4AM and the Ocoee Amateur Radio Society, WD4OAR. While
attending college at UT (1994-97), I was a member of the University
of Tennessee Amateur Radio Club - AA4UT. In addition, I have held the title of
Assistant Emergency Coordinator of the Amateur Radio
Emergency Service for Hamilton County, TN, for the years 1998-2000. I'm an
active member of Skywarn and you may hear me during the TAG Skywarn Net on W4AM 146.610-
repeater.
I am trustee of the WD4OAR 442.925+ repeater located on top of White Oak Mountain in
northeast Hamilton County, TN. The repeater has two remote base ports and a working
autopatch. Visit www.qsl.net/wd4oar for more
information.
My hobbies include, besides amateur and commercial radio & TV, hiking, camping,
golfing, and fishing. I love the mountains and spend many weekends exploring the
Blue Ridge, Smoky, and Unicoi Mountains of East Tennessee and North Carolina.
You can usually hear me on the WD4OAR 442.925+ repeater during the early evening
hours. Also, you might catch me calling the Ocoee
Amateur Radio Society's Net which is heard every Tuesday evening at 9pm ET on the
WD4DES 147.180 MHz repeater.
If you don't catch me on UHF, try calling me on 50.125 USB or 144.200 USB. When
I'm in the ham shack, I'm usually monitoring these frequencies and would love to QSO.
I also run a very informative program for area amateur radio operators. The
program Amateur Radio Newsline can be
heard on the WD4OAR repeater once a week. The running times of the program are
announced during the Tuesday night OARS Net.
