W4JKL's Collected DSB Pages
Files - From Theory to Implementation
Back in the late '50s, when sideband was new to hams, getting on SSB was very expensive. So, some of the fellows opted for DSB by using two power tetrodes as a high level balanced modulator. The files below document some of those efforts. Some of the articles also provide info about tubes intended to be used as balanced modulators, such as the 7360. For those of us who enjoy building simple glowbug gear or those wanting to try a simple QRP sideband rig, DSB offers some interesting possibilities. You will likely need an oscilloscope to get these designs to perform well enough to satisfy yourself (and the FCC), and of course the high voltage can kill you. Join the Glowbug Email Reflector and there are plenty of good folks ready to give you advice if you decide to build your own.
