2018 FIELD DAY PLANS

This year’s FD will again be at the Saddle and Bridle pavilion, located in the Maury County Park. FD is the weekend of June 23 rd and 24 th and set up will commence at 8 AM. The official start is at 1 PM and runs until 1 PM Sunday afternoon. This year there are a few changes. A total of 5 stations will be on the air simultaneously. Two QRP CW stations will be running as a separate entry and call sign (to be announced later). The remaining stations, 1 phone, 1 VHF/UHF, and 1 digital, will be operating as Maury ARC using the call W4GGM. All stations will again be running under battery and solar power. Last year’s operation was a great success and several people commented about how nice it was not having the generator noise. Right now a GOTA station has not been planned yet. If there is enough interest please let me know so one can be planned. The GOTA station will be set up and put on the air by new hams and those who are not familiar with HF operations. A “coach” will be available to guide those assembling the station, as well as operating the station. The GOTA station will be operated under a separate call but all contacts made will be included in the Maury ARC entry. For those of you who are not familiar with Field Day a GOTA (Get On The Air) station is for new hams, persons interested in becoming a ham but who are not licensed, and inactive hams. If you have never been to or have participated in FD be sure to plan to be there that weekend! On Saturday evening June 23 rd the operation will shut down at 6 PM for dinner, a short meeting, and fellowship. This year the dinner will be Mexican related. After dinner we will have a short meeting and then everyone will be free to socialize. For those who want to get back on the air the stations will be available. We will operate throughout the night and up to 1 PM the next day, weather (and band conditions) permitting. Night owls are always welcome to operate. I will keep you posted on plans as the time gets closer. If you have any suggestions, want to help, or have questions let me know. See you all June 23 rd !
