2008 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

Selected as the winner of the 2008 $1,000 scholarship was Benjamin Frye, KI4BAW of Roanoke, VA.   This is the eighteenth year that this scholarship has been offered by the Nanticoke Amateur Radio Club, Inc. There were fourteen applicants eligible this year for the Nanticoke Amateur Radio Club Scholarship. 

Benjamin Frye is an 18 year old junior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, majoring in Computer Science.  He holds a technician class license and operates SSB on 10 meters and on all VHF/UHF bands up through 23cm.  He was a founder and officer of his high school's radio club.


 

 

 SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY

In 1990, Nanticoke Amateur Radio Club life member, Walt Osborne, KC3UM, now a Silent Key established a scholarship fund for the Nanticoke Amateur Radio Club, Inc. The fund was set up so that the Foundation for Amateur Radio, Inc. a non-profit organization would administer the scholarships without cost to the donors.

SCHOLARSHIPS

THE FOUNDATION FOR AMATEUR RADIO, INC., a non-profit organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C., awarded fifty-eight scholarships for the academic year 2008 to assist licensed Radio Amateurs.

Licensed Radio Amateurs may compete for these scholarships if they plan to pursue a full-time course of studies beyond high school and are enrolled in or have been accepted for enrollment at an accredited university, college or technical school. The awards range from $500 to $2500 with preference given in some cases to residence of specified geographical areas or the pursuit of certain study programs. Clubs, especially those in Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin, are encouraged to announce these opportunities at their meetings, in their club newsletters, during training classes, on the nets and on their World Wide Web home pages.

NANTICOKE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, INC. SCHOLARSHIP

The Nanticoke Amateur Radio Club Scholarship pays $1,000. Applicants must have at least a Technician Plus license and seek a baccalaureate degree. Preference will be given to those studying Architecture, Engineering, Electronics, Science or a related field at an institution of higher learning in the U.S. Residence requirement - Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia.

The Foundation for Amateur Radio, incorporated in the District of Columbia, is an exempt organization under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. It is devoted exclusively to promoting the interests of Amateur Radio and those scientific, literary and educational pursuits that advance the purposes of the Amateur Radio Service.
