IRLP
How to use IRLP (Internet Radio Linking Project)
IRLP is a method of connecting Ham Radio with the Internet and vise versa.
In order to connect a Ham Radio with the Internet, the ham operator must
be able to connect to a "Node". A node is simply a point where the actual
connection to and from the Internet is made. You can find a NODE NUMBER by going
to http://www.irlp.net on the Internet.
Our "NODE NUMBER" here in Pottsville, PA is 4867. Our connecting system is managed by KA3FUL.
HOW DO I CONNECT with a distant NODE? To connect to a Node in another location, you
must have the number of that Node (see above how to find a node number). You
can only connect to another Node on one of our Repeaters (147.345).
To connect to a distant Node, verify that our Repeater (147.345) is not currently in use.
Use your Push to Talk key, Identify yourself by saying your call:"This is XxXXX",
then on your Touch Tone Pad, Enter the 4 digit distant Node number you wish to access. Unkey.
The Node you are trying to access will then: (1)Welcome you if it is not in use,(2)Tell
you that is currently connected to another Node, or (3)tell you that the Node is being used
locally.
If the Node "welcomes you" then you are permitted to use it just as
you would ANY OTHER REPEATER. However, you must wait a few seconds between
transmissions so the Node can establish proper connections. When you are finished
using the NODE, key in the code "73" the standard command to disconnect
ALL NODES. The Node will then inform you that it is coming down. At this point
you may attempt to bring up another node or simply discontinue your contacts.
We hope this information has helped you. In the not to distant future, we
will have a Power Point Presentation available for you to view which will
assist you further.
