Foundation for Amateur Radio Report

The winter (final) issue of AutoCall will be mailed the first week in November.  There will most likely be an annual FAR AutoCall but it is anticipated that many of the functions of the regular AutoCall will be assumed by an improved web site.

The offices of FAR are open and volunteers are being solicited. Diane Zimmerman reported that the Scholarship fund had received an undirected estate distribution in the area of $145,000.00 and this will be used to increase the 3 FAR Silent Key Annual Scholarships from $1,000.00 to $2,500.00 each.

Dianne and Hugh Trumble W3ABC discussed the overall operation of the Scholarship Committee. It seems to be going very well.

FARFest

It was acknowledge that HEMARC contributed by doing a very good job on the equipment test table.  Next year, however the basement location will not be available due to its cost (unless an unanticipated increase in vendors materializes.)  It appears that FAR made about $600.00 profit.  The Saturday attendance was about 600 less than last year but the Sunday attendance was about the same (though small.)  The 2006 FARFest will be on September 9th and 10th.  We will discuss HEM Arc’s equipment test table participation will be discussed at a future meeting.

Medical Expense Benefit for K3HDM (Flyer issued at meeting) Frank Scott ‘HD’ K3HDM has suffered a severe medical problem which has incurred expenses far beyond his means.  A dinner/dance/entertainment benefit will be held Sunday November 6th.  Complete information at:

The Boy Scouts of America Jamboree On the Air.  Rol Anders K3RA will be there and more volunteers are needed.

FT-920 Antenna Tuner Problem (Rol Anders email issued at meeting)

Linear Amplifier Input Power

To achieve full power output from the linear the input power should be raised from 208VAC to 220/240VAC.  Heru W3WVV has a transformer that might have a transformer capable of supply the 2KW necessary.

New Slate of Officer

The call for officer nominations was made.  All elected offices are open for nomination. Please contact any officer to nominate yourself or another member who has agreed to serve.

Adjourned 6:45 PM

The technical program was a talk Emergency Communications in Anne Arundel County by Frank Winner N3SEO.  Frank is the Anne Arundel County Emergency Coordinator for the ARRL.  Both ARES and RACES were discussed.  The new Mobile Com Center in AA county was used on the Gulf Coast to support the Maryland Hospital Assist Team with very good effect and there were some lessons learned.  There are now 75 volunteers signed up and their training was discussed.
