Guests -  Evan Smith & Mona Singleton NY7P,  Attending and not on the sheet: Nick Yokanovich  K3NY and one other call that wasn't clear on the tape.

The secretary reported that the email minutes had been corrected to include a more technically correct account of the Rig Runner problem and the corrected copies (Revision A, 1 June 05) were available on the meeting room table.  This revision was accepted.

Fred Heath AI3Z, the Treasurer, reported receiving a check for $ 180.00 from Northrop Grumman for Employees with membership in HEMARC.

The gross balance is approximately a little over $1,000.00 at this time.

Approximate paid up membership is 51.  There will be some expense for the W2W certificates, the new station background wall display and Field Day 2005.

Operations

Nick Yokanovich K3NY reported that the D-Day W2W special event netted 778 SSB QSO's.  602 were on 20 Meters and 176 on 40 Meters.  139 were DX.  Many states were not filled in on the log but the first pass indicates that we only missed Montana, Alaska, Hawaii and Vermont for WAS.  This is very good considering the low sunspot numbers.  We now have 117 DXCC countries confirmed.

Station Affairs

Les Jamison WR3X reported that the new cork board backdrop, which was donated by Warren Hartman W3JDF, has been put in place at the station and another one is being sought for the other wall.  We need to procure QSL hanging covers and fill them in with selected cards of interest. There is a plaque of station donors which should be updating.  All are asked to provide the names of donors to the secretary so a brass tag with their name can be ordered.

Foundation For Amateur Radio (FAR)

Chip Weems W4PBG reported on that the FARFest planning is proceeding apace with a new web page and map of how to get there in the Auto Call.

The FARFest will be held September 10th and 11th and HEMARC is committed to provide the equipment test table. The Scholarship deadline has passed and the selection committed will meet at the museum the week before Field Day. Auto Call will accept reports for the Fall issue until June 15th and special reports and pictures about Field Day until June 29th.

Training

Rol Anders K3RA reported that six of the students received their General Class from the recently completed class.  The Amateur Extra Course will begin Tuesday September 20, 2005.

Station Maintenance

Les WR3X repotted that we still need to replace the PL-259(?) coax connector below where the RG-8X is damaged.  It was noted that on Saturday morning of the W2W event the GAP was more effective than the dipole.  The VSWR problem is apparently at 20 Meters and higher.   We also need to put a new co-ax from the hard-line to the ATV station. A work party will be considered for a few weekends after Field Day.

Field Day 2005

Fred AI3Z will be on a business trip during field day. Thus a HF station captain is badly needed for field day.  Please advise any club officer if you can serve this item.  We are considering meeting at the museum at 9 AM on Saturday and going to the Field Day site as a group.  Set up people are also needed.  We will be at:  7553 Wigley Ave, Jessup, MD 20794 .  Jim N3GOO will visit the property and tentatively pick an area for operations.  When the information is available the secretary will email a map.  Meanwhile all were invited to try ww.map.google.com and click on Satellite to get a neat view of the property.  Boy Scouts use this site for camping and  rest room facilities are reportedly available as well as some limited 110VAC.  The site is owned by a Northrop Grumman employee.  It may be possible to have Boy Scouts come

by and possible operate.  W3HEM will operate 2ABattery/QRP W3GR will be used for the GOTA station.  The tri-pole mounts from John Paul AA3WI and Jim N3GOO will provide masts for HF and GOTA.

Sam Dunkle and Sam Bryant both have 70CM/2M dual band independent VFO Hat's that can possibly used with the Arrow antenna to work a satellite.  The W1AW bulleting  was discussed and the Friday schedule was given out.  Mike WA1QAA needs to be contacted for the message points.  Norm WA6ABD brought in a Windom and a multiband dipole for use on the GOTA station.

Six Meters

Rol K3RA reported that he was able to get a reasonable SWR on six meters with our tri-bander.  All are encouraged to try it.

Jules K0ZMA displayed a Hartley Oscillator Transmitter he constructed from a 1930 ARRL handbook.  It was a very fine looking creation of antique amateur radio gear.

The meeting was adjourned at about 7:10 PM.

The technical program was a presentation by Mona Singleton NY7P on Coast Guard Communications operations in Alaska. She also covered a brief history of maritime communications from Titanic to Satellites.  The role of CW was explored and its demise lamented.
