Old Business

The 70 CM antenna system is still to be analyzed and fixed.

Training

The new entry level Technician class will begin Tuesday night January 14, 2003

at 6:30 PM.  A reasonable number of students have signed up and incl7ude some youths and gals.  Members were encouraged to spread the word and pass out flyers.  A call for W3GR operators during the class was made and a sign up sheet for the next 4 class nights was circulated.  It was requested that operators make a strong effort to explain what they were doing.

QSL Cards

Mike KB3CPV reported good progress in the QSL card analysis and award filing.

We did receive a card from the north pole.

FISTS

Nick K3NY reported over 50 CW buddies have been paired worldwide and explained FISTS and the CW buddy program.  The FISTS web page was referenced.

HEMARC Web Page

Nick reported that he has now put an activities calendar on the HEMARC web page and is working on more pages.  Members et al are encouraged to visit our web site at www.qsl.net/w3gr/ .  Other events of interest are on a separate page.

W2W

118 QSL’s answered thus far. This is lighter than usual.  There are some bureau cards at Cam’s address.  The costs are negligible to plus thus far.

FAR

There is still considerable concern about the Auto Call magazine.  If the circulation keeps up it will break even in a few months.  The chairman of the Fall-Fest will be from CARA this year.  Thus far it appears that FAR and CARA each cleared $3300.00 from Fall-Fest 2002 and with any luck at all will do even better in 2003.  This is much better than FAR did in 2002 and a bit better than CARA did in 2002.  It looks good and we agreed that HEMARC will commit to provide the test table this year.  The article in Auto Call that announced that it might cease publication was not condoned by the trustees and should be ignored.  Contributions to the content of the magazine are badly needed however, so please feel urged to write up something and submit it.

It was pointed that the Auto Call article on the Riley Hollingsworth talk at HEMARC was written by John Johnston W3BE.  In the article HEMARC receive some very good publicity.  It was agreed that the secretary would compose a note of appreciation.

The Club Roster

A test email was sent to all members last week.  It was announced that you need to provide a new email address if you did receive it.  Several new email address were received.  Please send changes to cmweems@ieee.org or cmweemsj@msn.com.

TBL-13 and BC-610

Gary W3GMY has received a letter from the Museum Staff indicating that we may use the TBL-13 and BC-610 can be used by HEMARC for such things as the museum related special events.  We must however keep good records and removed parts so they can be restored to their mechanical pristine shape in the future.

New Business

Cam Marie’ Follow up

Nick K3NY is going to visit Cam’s son tomorrow and will review the tower etc. It will be necessary for any interested in it to make a fair offer.  He will list the gear and artifacts and have the museum acquisitions committee review it.

Jackets

We still are about 3 orders short of the minimum order quantity required to have a club jacket at a reasonable price – under $50.00.  Let Sam KB3CYL know:

Notice of Free Hamfest

Wed Jan 22 is the freefest at Timonium  5PM on and FREE.

The 2003 HEMARC Calendar of Activities.

Nick K3NY issued the proposed calendar draft.  We are trying to fine a special event other than D-Day in a month not as crowded as June.  This calendar is posted on the HEMARC Web.   We need to include kids day in June.  Any list of activities should include our training program.  Joe KB3FIG will try to work out a tentative schedule and course outline for a fundamentals course.  We need to look for centennials of appropriate items – like Dec 17th first flight centennial, BOMARC, Sputnik, etc.  For the moment we will go with the bold face items.

Don’t forget the ARRL etc require 3 month notice to cover the event.

We have a sign up sheet from the Greater Baltimore Hamfest and sign up for a table and plan for a good display.

The business meeting ended at 6:55PM

The Technical Program Part 1

Jules Kozma K0ZMA presented a beautiful working model of a working very early spark transmitter and coherer receiver and explained both.  They are beautiful and worked very well.

The Technical Program Part 2

Rol Anders K3RA gave a live computer working of EZNEC antenna modeling.  He took measurements from several members antennas and showed what they could expect in power out, SWR impedance and patterns.  Then they played what if with changes to the antennas.  It was quite exciting to see what some relatively modest wire changes on common antennas could to.
