TBL-13
The
TBL13 was a Navy radio communication transmitter
designed and built between 1936 and 1945. The
original 59 sets were produced in the
Westinghouse Chicopee Falls, MA plant. 4338 set
were supplied by Westinghouse and were produced
at the Baltimore, MD and East Springfield, MA
plants.
The
TBL evolved from teh master oscillator circuits
developed fro the predecessor TBF and TBK
transmitter sets.
The
TBL-13 first entered World War II in the service
of the British Navy. In 1939 the United States
provided the British Navy reconditioned
"four" stack destroyers for North
Atlantic enemy submarine suppression. The TBL-13
was installed on these vessels.
Thousands
of the TBL-13 transmitters were installed in U.S.
Navy ships from mine sweepers to battleships.
Many were used for ground based installations.
