On these pages you will find excerpts from my station log. I've listed stations that I have worked who have given a QSL manager or a direct mailing address for QSLs.
My station is a simple one, consisting of a Kenwood TS-870S (100 watts) dipoles for 80 through 30 meters and an inverted "L" antenna for 160 meters and a 2 element quad for 20/17/15/12/10 meters. I also have a Kenwood TS-130S which I have dedicated to PSK-31 operation.
My last project was the addition of a 5-band 2 element quad (made by Lightning Bolt) mounted on an AB-577 military antenna mast. The boom of the quad is at 58 feet. My dipoles are 35 feet above ground.
As you can see from my logs, you don't need a big yagi at 100 feet and a kilowatt to work DX. More know-how, operating skill, favorable propagation and some old fashion luck is all that is required when using low power and simple antennas. The challenge of working DX under these conditions, and the resulting accomplishments are far more rewarding. I would quickly get bored chasing DX if I worked everything I heard with one or two calls!
Listed below are my DX totals broken out by band and mode. The totals reflect what I have worked and confirmed since getting back on the air in September 1997. The first 286 countries were worked with 100 watts and dipole antennas.
