The first event was The Derby of Klondike 2012, held on Jan 14, 2012 at Boy Scout Camp Seph Mack. The following members of ICARC braved the winter elements and took part in the day long activity, Terry Carnahan KB3JOD, Larry Freeman N3LT, Fred Maize KM3M, Bill Menk W3LAB, Bill Wieserman K3ZYK. The previously listed members assisted with communications from remote activity areas of Camp Seph Mack with portable HT's on 2 meters simplex. Feb. 4, 2012 was Chestnut Ridge District's annual Scout Mall Show, held inside The Indiana Mall. Again, ICARC members were present and set up a display with radios, equipment, Morse Code practice sets along with many handouts and much information. The club's display was quite busy with Scouts as well as non-scouts who were in the Mall. The following ICARC members were present during the Mall Show, Craig Bigler ---- KB3LBV, David Dzelsky N3DZ, Larry Freeman N3LT, Carl Hvozda N3PIE, Jerry Kiehl WB3DUD, Fred Maize KM3M, Ken Snyder----AA3IO, (and possibly a few others I cannot recall as I'm writing this Email.) Hopefully, the ICARC's participation in these events will spark some interest in this incredible hobby for these young men, and possibly leading them to earn an Amateur Radio License of their own. Thank you again to ICARC and the individual members who gave their time in assisting with these local youth activities. Hopefully this may lead to bigger and better things in the future for both ICARC and Scouting. Sincerely, Phil Kopczyk K3PJ BSA Troop 13 Committee Chairman
