On January 17th I attended Spring Hill Florida's amateur radio club meeting which I found both entertaining and interesting, I received an impressive welcome. It appeared most of their members present were an older, and very nice, group.
They meet in the auditorium of a place called High Point; this is very similar to Brookridge, where Patsy and I own our double wide. It's a very nice facility complete with a PA system and all.
Their club consists of seventy plus members of which about twenty eight were present at the meeting. Their dues are also $20. At the start of the meeting they pledge elegance to the flag. They have both a secretary and a treasurer. About two thirds of the way through the meeting they have a social period with coffee and doughnuts. Prior to the conclusion of the meeting they had a presentation on the introduction to kits, it was very interesting.
They do not have EchoLink however; they are in the process of upgrading their repeater system and hope to add EchoLink. Their repeater antenna is located on top of Oak Hill Hospital. For those that don't know, Florida's high point is about like one of our small hills.
They're planning their ham fest for February 19th and they had an interesting discussion as to whether or not to serve hot dogs, they concluded there was too much of a liability risk and voted not to serve them.
They have a monthly meeting, a weekly ARES, as well as, a club net. They have a web site for anyone that might be interested, its: www.kf4ixu.org. They read their meeting minutes but I was told they don't publish them.
They hold a Christmas party and a couple luncheons per year with the members and their significant other. They meet at McDonald's on Wednesday mornings for breakfast.
They advertise their meetings and invite both licensed hams as well as anyone interested in getting a ham license, to the meetings...
