Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers! I know this is the June news letter however, I'm writing it on May 14th.

I want to thank the six club members, including myself, that participated in the Torrance walk yesterday, they were: Rusty WB3EUQ, Terry KB3JOD, Robert KB3JOF, Jerry WB3DUD, and Carl N3PIE. It was a beautiful morning, and 146.520 simplex worked fine.

At the meeting last Tuesday Kim, our club secretary, informed me that we had two more people join the club, this brings our membership to forty three. My Ham Call program indicates we have some one hundred ninety one licensed amateurs in our surrounding area. We're moving forward with a campaign to hopefully increase our membership. If one doesn't care to join the club, we're asking for donations, in any amount, to help maintain our repeaters. If you know of anyone that is a licensed ham or someone that might be interested in getting an amateur license and would like to join the club, please invite them to one of our meetings, there always welcome.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It's time again to be thinking about Field Day scheduled for June 24th and 25th. Dave Dzelsky, N3DZ, is working on a list of members that might be interested in participating in the field day event. If you're interested, please make sure Dave is aware and adds you to the list. It was suggested that mobile antennas be used in lieu of erecting the more common and larger stationary types. The field day activities will be discussed in detail at the June 6th meeting, please plan to attend this meeting.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Remember, our club now belongs to forty three members.
Thanks and 73's
Darrell R. Norris - WA3AJQ
President

Demo By: Bill Wieserman, K3ZYK, with SDR // Software Define Radio - Flex Radio !
Bill gave a very impressive demo on Software Defined Radio. The demo lasted well over an hour. This appears to be the way of the future in ham radio. Thanks to Bill for his time, effort, equipment and the handout he provided.
ARES:
We had some discussion with Jerry, WB3DUD, as to how we are to keep the net call list current. The net control can submit his / her updated call list to Robert KB3JOF, as an Email attachment, however Jerry will be the one to have Robert place it on our web site after Jerry's review.
Terry, KB3JOD, volunteered to be net control for the month of June.

Darrell WA3AJQ indicated we have about 191 licensed hams in our surrounding areas and wants to consider mailing out post cards as an invitation to join our club or at least make a donation, in any amount, to help maintain our repeaters. He provided samples for review and discussion.
Darrell would also like to advertise our meeting nights. (Info from Bill Menk, W3LAB) Bill was not present. This will be discussed at the June meeting.
The attendees thought mailing out cards was a good idea and made some suggestions regarding the info on the cards. Darrell made the corrections and Emailed the card file to Fred, KM3M, who agreed to print them, Carl N3PIE said he has a cutter to cut them. It was also understood the club will pay the postage. Darrell will print the labels from his new Ham Call program.
