December, 2006 News Letter

Written - November 13, 2006

=========================================================

In accordance with our club by-laws, ARTICLE EIGHT: DUTIES OF OFFICERS; SECTION 1; PRESIDENT; I submit the following state of our club.

=========================================================

We currently have forty nine (49) members, consisting of the following: ten (10) Extras; fifteen (15) Generals; twenty two (22) Techs and two (2) non-licensed. Memberships consisted of the following: Thirty three (33) Individuals; twelve (12) Family and four (4) Associates.

=========================================================

All club meetings were held at Eat- N-Park in Indiana. The Board meetings were scheduled for 7:00 pm with the general meetings at 7:30 pm. Meetings were held on the first Tuesday of each month except the July 4th meeting was moved to Wednesday, July 5th because of the holiday.

=========================================================

The club participated in the following activities: MS Walk on April 23rd; Torrance Walk on May 13th; ARRL Field Day, June 24th and 25th; Club picnic, September 24th; VE testing session, October 7th; Multi county breakfast, October 21st and the club Christmas party is scheduled for December 10th. We had our club breakfasts at Eat-N-Park on Saturday mornings and Wednesday Hot Dog nights at the repeater site.

=========================================================

A non club activity was a mini field day held on September 16th at the repeater site, in which a number of members participated.

=========================================================

We had a Sheetz coupon sale again this year.

=========================================================

We mailed one hundred eighty four (184) invitations to local licensed radio amateurs, asking them to join our club or consider contributing something towards the operation of our repeater. We had twenty eight invitations returned, three were deceased, and the rest were wrong addresses. Out of all this, we gained two new members.

=========================================================

For the first time, we held a multi county social breakfast on October 21st. Those invited were: Butler; Armstrong; Indiana and Cambria Counties.

=========================================================

We now have both our meeting nights and Saturday morning breakfasts advertised in the Indiana Gazette.

=========================================================

The treasury was consistent with previous years.

=========================================================

Out of forty nine members, we've averaged about twelve to fifteen members attending the regular monthly meetings.

=========================================================

As president, I was disappointed with not having a ham fest; having very few volunteers for Monday night net control operators; still not having an ARES Emergency Coordinator; not having more members attend the monthly meetings and the lack of cooperation in establishing the 2007 club nomination list.

=========================================================

Lets all work together to make 2007 an even better year.

=========================================================

I want to extend my appreciation to all who participated in the various activities and to those who served as officers during 2006, THANKS!!

=========================================================

Respectfully,

Darrell R. Norris - WA3AJQ

2006 Club President

2007 Nomination Summary

Survey by: Darrell Norris WA3AJQ

1. There are forty nine (49) members in our club of which forty two (42) have Email addresses. There are thirty seven (37) with Email that are eligible to hold office. I sent the thirty seven (37) an Email on October 8th asking them to please let me know one way or the other if they were interested in any of the club offices for 2007, I got 3 responses. Four (4) of the Emails I send always come back, I got two of them corrected by telephone, they had gotten new addresses but never informed us. I contacted members without Email by phone, two calls if necessary. Some I got an answering machine, never returned my call, a couple, someone answered and assured me they would have the individual call me, they never did.

2. I sent a second Email requesting the same information on October 15th saying that if I had contacted you personally or you had responded to my previous Email, to disregard this one. I got a couple responses.

3. Finally on October 24th I sent a third Email to twelve (12) members I had not heard from, again I received absolutely not one response. I now consider these as no contacts.

Old Business:

ARES: Jerry Kiehl, WB3DUD

Jerry indicated he may not be interested in the coordinators job next year, he'll let us know for sure at the December meeting.

Reminder: At the end of the month, the net control operator can submit his / her updated call list to Robert KB3JOF, as an Email attachment however Jerry will be the one to have Robert place it on our web site after his (Jerry's) review.

Robert Zugates KB3JOF, would still like to get an ARES ID card.

RACES: Rusty O'Donnell WB3EUQ (Not at meeting)

Sometime ago Rusty indicated the county is going to issue identification cards to us. Their waiting on the machine.

ECHOLINK - Rusty O'Donnel WB3EUQ (Not at Meeting)

Robert Zugates, KB3JOF, is taking over Echolink until Rusty, WB3EUQ, is available again.

Repeater Operation - Elmer Soriso, KB3WG (Not at Meeting)

Elmer Sorisio KB3WG took care of the application for membership renewal in the Western Pennsylvania Repeater Council (WPRC). Kim reimbursed Elmer the $10 fee required for the renewal.

50 /50 was won by: Ron Carnahan KB3JOE
(Ron donated the money to the club, THANKS RON)

VE testing Saturday October 7th: - Bill McMillen N3QM

Bill indicated they had two people tested. Alton Strong, N3PHL, passed his EXTRA CLASS test. WE APPLAUD ALTON.

Bill asked if the club wished to sponsor the VE testing for next year. Bill McMillen, N3QM, made a motion to perform the testing again next year, it was second by Robert Zugates, KB3JOF. The motion passed.

2007 testing will be scheduled for the first Saturday in April and October at 1:00 PM. Contact Bill for the location. (724) 397-2702 or Email at: n3qm@ptd.net

New Business:

FCC Reallocation of frequencies: Dave Dzelsky, N3DZ Dave was not prepared to discuss the changes at this time.

Activities for 2006:

Robert Zugates, KB3JOF, reported on the possibility of setting up a display at the Indiana Mall for two weeks or so. The time and type of display will have to be determined.

Christmas party: December 10th @ 6:OOPM (Hoss's "big" room in Indiana )

Non members are welcome to attend the Christmas party.

Roger and Kathy are contacting some of the previous members.

We considered holding the Christmas party at the Blue Spruce Park. $80 to rent the lodge; $9.00 + tax per person for the caterer; wood is furnished for the fire place; they have a tree but we can add additional Christmas decorations; we would probably furnish our own desert. Most of the attendees were in favor of going to the Blue Spruce facility however, because of the short notice as well as other considerations we will go to Hoss's again this year.

Bill Menk also has the name of a caterer for consideration if we go to the Blue Spruce Park next year.

Ham Fest : 2007 ?

This will be discussed in January 2007

Questions: 1. Do we want to have a ham fest?
2. Where will it be held? What will be served for food / refreshments? When would it be held? Who will be in charge of it? We need to find a better location.

Multi county social breakfast: Darrell, WA3AJQ

Breakfast was held October 21st at Eat' N Park in Indiana. We had twenty four (24) people in attendance. Two people attended from Butler County, two from Armstrong, one from Cambria, one from Westmoreland and eighteen from Indiana.

Eat-N-Park (Terry) did a great job in setting up the room and providing really fine service.

Darrell, WA3AJQ, expressed his appreciation to all those in attendance.

Club Web Site Robert Zugates, WB3JOF (Web Master)

Robert suggested we make a contribution to QSL where we have our web site.

Dave, N3DZ moved we donate $20, second by Larry N3LT, the motion passed.

Kim gave Robert the $20 at the meeting and Robert will supply a receipt for club records.

Robert reported we have had approximately 1200 site hits.

Notes or comments?

If you know of anyone that would be interested in becoming a ham or would like to join our club, please invite them to our meetings.

Antenna Analysis: Ken Snyder - AA3IO

Ken gave a very interesting software presentation on antenna analysis. It seems to be something that would be fun to play with. Please let Ken know if you're interested in getting a copy of the program. Thanks to Ken, AA3IO, for the presentation, also thanks to Bill Wieserman, K3ZYK and Billy Wieserman, N3PHJ for assisting Ken.
