For those not aware of it, one of our fellow members and very good friend, Gloria Freeman, KB4JWV, recently suffered a serious heart attack and is recovering in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. We all wish her and her family the very best and pray for a speedy recovery.

Field Day 2006 was June 24th and 25th. Dave Dzelsky, N3DZ, headed the event for our club: He reported there was good participation and between CW and Phone, over three hundred (300) contacts were made, a bear was spotted and the weather was sometimes threatening. The station designation was 3A since commercial power was used. There were three tents and Larry's, N3LT, camper and a variety of antennas were utilized. Some of our newer members, like the Carnahan family, did an excellent job.

Dave also said there was a good turn out for the Saturday evening picnic. We owe Dave a great big "thanks" for his taking the lead for this event.

The following is an excerpt taken from an ARRL memo dated June 30, 2006.

(Amateur Radio volunteers this week supported communication or remained on alert to assist relief organizations and local emergency managers in flood-stricken regions of the Eastern US. Widespread flooding in several states claimed at least a dozen lives. ARRL Eastern Pennsylvania PIO Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, says ham radio volunteers in 10 counties in his Section actively aided local law enforcement, emergency management agencies and the Red Cross, which set up about a dozen evacuation centers.

"Hams in some areas may be on duty for several days as river levels slowly drop below flood stage," Josuweit told ARRL June 29. The Delaware River, which separates New Jersey and Pennsylvania, crested June 29, and the Susquehanna River a day earlier.)

I wanted to include this article since I sometimes suspect the general public isn't aware of the many services amateur radio operators provide. Sure, we have fun, learn a little and like to socialize, we enjoy our Saturday morning breakfasts, our club picnic and our Christmas party. We now have forty seven people that belong to a great club.

Thanks to all.

Kim Frech, our Secretary / Treasurer is arranging to have our club breakfasts and meeting nights posted in the Indiana Gazette.

Thanks and 73's
