At the old qth the G5RV (at the single red mark) is in a slight inverted V up 40 ft / 12 meters on the guyed wooden mast. The G5RV was facing north east and south west broad side. Of course being a inverted V gave some more advantage off the to cover the normally les rediante ends of the wire if hung as a flat top. This configuration was the best I could do to get up as high as I could. Using a tree at 35ft at one end and a lightweight "A" frame mast up 35ft at the other. I was pertty happy with the results.

Even though the antenna is really only rated for 80 through 10 meters. By using a tuner I have been able to tune down to 1:1 on all the bands including 160m and 6m. Not too bad for an amateur on a budget.

  • Inventor Louis Varney - G5RV
  • Because the ladder line also radiates, the antenna functions a number of ways.
  • 80m functions as a 1/2 wave folded dipole.
  • 40m functions as a collinear array with two half waves fed in phase.
  • 30m functions as a collinear array with two half waves fed in phase.
  • 20m functions as a center-fed long wire of three half waves out of phase.
  • 15m  functions as a long wire of five half waves.
  • 12m  functions as a long wire of five half waves.
  • 10m  functions as two long wire antennas each of three wave lengths, fed in phase.
