WARC October 2001 Newsletter

 

WARC MEETING FRIDAY OCTOBER 12, 2001

WANTAGH  LIBRARY,  WANTAGH, NY

 

Due to delays in roof work, the library will be once again

available for this friday's meeting

 

On the agenda will be appointment of the election slate nominating committee.

All interested parties are urged to come forward.

 

Due to personal commitments, I will not be available for the meeting.

Vice president Vince Vignati will be presiding.

 

Due to the WTC attacks, this has been a trying time for many of us.

Members are urged to come down and share their experiences. 

 

This is also a great opportunity for ham discussion and friendly conversation.

So come down and enjoy the evening as well.

 

September 2001 Meeting Minutes

 

Meeting was opened by Vic K2IY


All Officers were present.


Minutes were accepted as read by the Secretary.

Treasurer's Report:  Currently $764 after paying for refreshments.

 

DX report by Len KB2HK
Again a lot of over the horizon radar noise.  Solar Flux is at 234. 

In spite of this there is a lot of  DX out there.  Len also spoke of IOTA hunting.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Vic K2IY spoke of the recent radio club presidents
meeting.  Ham Fairs have been visited by Sales Tax

Enforcement agents.  The group must have a "certificate
of authority" and collect the tax.  However if you do
less than 3 shows/year this does not apply.

 

Our Code class is on hold.  The library does not have
space available until 2002.

 

Frank N2RSO has added more links to our website


LIMARC would like to join with WARC to provide
license testing every other month.  LIMARC no longer has
their present site.  A motion was made.  "WARC would
join with LIMARC in providing a site for testing." 
Motion was made by Frank N2RSO and seconded by

Phil N2ZUB.  After discussion, motion was approved.

 

Sid K2LJH spoke of the need for ham operators in the
current WTC emergency.  W2VL repeater-146.85-is
currently used only for disaster coordination & traffic. 

Jack KI2M is scheduled for a shift tomorrow.
 

Frank N2RSO asked if there was any interest in

Bunny Hunting to sharpen our direction finding skills.

 

We observed a minute of silence in respect for those 
who died or were injured in the attack of September 11, 2001.

 

Meeting was adjourned @ 9.15  PM.
