WARC November 2001 Newsletter

Wantagh Amateur Radio Club   W2VA
Wantagh, NY

Our Next Meeting:  Friday  November 9, 2001   8 PM
At  Wantagh Public Library

Greetings one and all.  Yes its that time of the month again for our 11th WARC Meeting of 2001.

On this month's meeting agenda will be our annual auction and our annual election of officers.  All members are urged to bring one or more items for the auction. Items can be anything including ham items, computer related or anything else.

Due to the September 11 events, the appointment of an election committee was overlooked.  The membership was canvassed at last month's meeting for committee members but no one stepped forward.

Both Vin Vignati KD2EP and myself have agreed to be nominated to serve a second year in our offices. However Treasurer Herman Milatz W2TLC and Recording Secretary Bill Kelly N2RRX have served the 5 years allowed by the constitution. Bill will accept nomination to serve as the next Treasurer. Of course we are seeking a nominee to serve as next Recording Secretary.  All interested nominees for recording Secretary and the other Officer positions are urged to step forward.

Some of our members have taken or continue to take an active role in the WTC Relief efforts.  Our web site has several items about the efforts including an article by Jack Wicks KI2M detailing his own personal experience.  Web Master Frank N2RSO continues to maintain the site and has added several interesting items and links along with the WTC items.

Phil Lewis N2MUN HRU22 Chairman informs me that the next scheduled Ham Radio University 2002 planning meeting will be held on Monday November 12 at 7:00 PM  at the Babylon Town Hall EOC 200 East Sunrise Hwy  Lindenhurst.

HRU2002 will take place on January 20, 2002.

As indicated on our website http://www.qsl.net/w2va/clubnews2.htm Wantagh Resident Adam Smook N2EWB has donated a Gap Titan DX Antenna to our Club.  He is donating it in memory of his good friend, mentor and former WARC member Bob Lochner K2ROG.  Frank N2RSO and myself picked up the antenna from Adam at his home two weeks ago. The antenna can make a fine addition to our field day equipment inventory since its easy to erect and operates all bands 80-10 including warc frequencies, however we will also discuss its possible sale or auction at this month's meeting.

Art Blank N2NB informs me that he will be operating from Montserrat between February 14th and 26th, 2002.  Art will sign call VP2MDY.  Besides his normal weekday daily DX operating, Art will also be active in the ARRL DX CW Contest and CQ 160 Contest which will be held on successive weekends during his stay.

Sincerest Thanks to all who expressed condolences on the passing of my mom, Marie Panzica.

So once again come on down to this month's meeting and enjoy our cherished American Rights of Free Assembly and Free Speech.

Vic K2IY
