WARC March 2001 Newsletter

Our Next Meeting:  Friday  March 9, 2001   8 PM
At  Wantagh Public Library

We are already up to our third meeting of 2001 and before we know it
this winter weather will be gone and a ham's thoughts turn to.....Field Day.

Unfortunately I was not able to attend our February meeting.  My daughter
originally had a school event that night but she contracted a kidney infection
earlier that week instead.  She's all fine now but she was in the hospital for
a few days and kept mom and dad out of work for a couple of weeks.

Special thanks to our Vice President Vin Vignati KD2EP for handling the February
meeting and hosting Hudson Division Director & Guest Speaker
Frank Fallon N2FF.

Personally I've gotten back to winter ham activities and had a chance to attend
the LIMARC and Great South Bay (GSBARC) Hamfests these last two weekends.
WARC  member Phil Bossert N2ZUB and myself also attended the GSBARC Hamfest
VE session as well this Sunday.  After 30 years as an Advanced Class licensee,
I am now an Extra. However unlike 30 years ago, I did not rush home to get on
the air.  Actually I had to change a flat tire on my way home from there.

This month's meeting agenda will include a discussion of the winter activities
and a further discussion of club projects including field day.

The discussion / demo part of the meeting will be a discussion and demo of
PSK31 Mode by  myself.

Frank discussed his recent participation at the ARRL National
Board Meeting held in Dallas on January 19 & 20, 2001.
Topics discussed:
-ARRL Dues will be increased by $5 to $39 for full time members.
-The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) will probably
pass a resolution at its next meeting to drop the morse code
as an international requirement for amateur licensing.
(I believe individual countries can still vote to keep it as a
  requirement for their own country.)
-The IARU is also campaigning to make the 300khz band a
worldwide band.  It is presently a US only band.
-Frank also discussed PRB-1 which is the initiative to strengthen
tower regulations. He also passed out the paperwork to lobby
our New York State representatives on PRB-1.

Reminder to all members who have not paid the 2001 dues.

Come on down to this friday's meeting and help plan the
