WARC January 2001 Newsletter

Our Next Meeting:  Friday  January 12, 2001   8 PM
At  Wantagh Public Library

The votes have been counted, the election is over and the new WARC
officers are ready to begin the 2001 year.

Tentatively our meeting presentation will be a video from FEMA (Federal
Emergency Mgt. Agency) and  accompanying talk on emergency preparedness
by WARC Member and retired FEMA employee Frank Porcaro-N2RSO.

Our meeting agenda will also include discussion and interest in possible
club projects for the coming year. Possible projects can include;
licensing & code classes, reviving the club newsletter on a monthly or
quarterly basis, a club web site, a club hamfest, an on the air FM,
PSK31 or CW net, possible field trips etc.  If you have any ideas or
proposals, please bring 'em down.

We will also discuss WARC participation in Ham Radio University 2001,
which will be held Sunday January 21. Sid Wolin K2LJH will be a seminar
presenter at the event on the topic of SWR Myths. There will be a need
to man a WARC publicity table at the event to solicit possible new
members and licensees.  Remember that we represent a very populous area
of Nassau County and stand a good chance of attracting "new prospective"
Hams and "veteran" Hams looking to renew their hobby interest.  For

Our December 2000 meeting was opened at 8:15 PM by our President Sid
Wolin K2LJH.  Discussion included a review of the 5 WPM upgrade class.
Sid indicated it was a great pleasure to serve as our president for the
past 3 years. He indicated the enjoyment of working with the club which
has a quiet and easy style as opposed to the more structured clubs.

Treasurer Herman Milatz W2TLC indicated the club has $523 in the bank
account.

Len Zuckerman KB2HK gave the report on DX activity.  The K Index was at
a level 4 and there are several DX'peditions active including one from
Tunisia.

PSK31 mode was discussed and interested operators should look for
activity on 20 mtrs at 14.070 MHZ.

The 50-50 was held and won by Herman N2CCF.

Business Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM and the club held its annual
holiday party.

All will agree that outgoing President Sid Wolin K2LJH and Vice
President Arnold Tarallo W2OEJ have done an outstanding job for the
club.  Fortunately they will be serving as directors on the 2001
Executive Board along with Al Bockelman K2ES.
