Welcome to the W2OHM Web Page..........

Thank you for stopping here for a visit. My name is Richard Pierce and I am located in Ridge, New York. Ridge is a small town about 60 miles East of New York City on Long Island.

I have been a licensed Amateur Radio Operator since November 1961. As a Novice I was issued the call WV2VWD. (Try saying that fast!!!) Before one year was up, I received my Technician license and was issued WA2VWD. Moving to Florida resulted in WB4DXR because at that time when you moved to another state, you had to notify the FCC and they would issue a call sign that matched the area in which you lived. December 16, 1977 I upgraded to General. My call letters were changed in April of 1981 to N4ESC.

Arriving back to New York some years later (about 19), I heard that Vanity calls were available, so in a flash I made sure that my call this time would be easy to remember. I was so motivated with my new call W2OHM that I decided to study for an upgrade and was issued my Advanced Class License in May of 1998. Many thanks to my elmer who was Neil, KC2KY of Radio Central Amateur Radio Club. On January 11, 2000 I passed the Amateur Extra class writen exam, and on April 15, 2000 I was on the air with my Amateur Extra Class license. I might add that the encouragement of my dear wife Maria KB2TMI, and the many hours she took up slack for things to be done while I studied, made it possible for me to pass these exams. Thank you Maria....

I am a member of the S.P.A.R.K. Amateur Radio Club and serve as a Certified Volunteer Examiner. The club call is K2SPD ..... My interest in computers and ham radio meld together in the digital modes that include SSTV, PSK-31, RTTY and now Echolink. My Node number is 51184.
