The Making
of a
"Charlie
Brown" Christmas Tree...
Christmas trees in my family
have always been "Charlie Brown" trees. These are trees
that look quite bare before they are decorated. We often buy them
at a great discount, because no one else wants 'em!

But, you see, these "bare" trees allow us to decorate
them in a very special way. We like to decorate these trees with
a lot of old glass ornaments. We put these ornaments on the tree
from the inside out! So, the bare spots in the tree do get filled
up with decorations. Many of the older ornaments are hung on threads,
rather than hooks. This requires a bit more space below the branches
to allow them to hang fully...

The final touch is hanging the "icicles", or tinsel.
We usually don't use garland or anything like that. Just lots
and lots of tinsel. I wonder if the new cat is going to eat the
tinsel. We'll just keep the tinsel off of the lower branches just
to be sure. When I was little, we used to use the 1" large
light bulbs. You can't really buy these anymore, so now we just
use a bunch of the little multicolored strands (no flashing lights
though...). The finished tree takes many hours to complete, and
the picture (and my digital camera) don't really do it justice.
Merry Christmas!
