Secretary Report & Minutes of Meriden Amateur Radio Club
November 2013

The business meeting opened at 1930 on November 14, 2013 with approximately 15 people in attendance. A quorum was present. Jim N1ZN was acting chair.
Announcements - 
  • No introductions needed.
  • The November business meeting is also the Annual Meeting, as required in our bylaws. Next meeting is the annual Holiday Party on Thursday, December 12th at Brothers Restaurant, 33 No. Cherry St., Wallingford (behind the RR station).  
  • Social assemblage – 6:00PM, dinner – 7:00PM, and awards presentations – following.

  • Accepted as presented.
  • The Treasurer reminds all that 2014 dues (which now include the repeater membership) are due at or before the December 2014 Christmas Party. Mail early and give Haggie a break.
  • An audit committee was formed per the By-Laws consisting of K1VDF, KB1FYL, K1PU and N1ZN ad hoc chair. The committee will report their results early in 2014.

EmComm - (Wallingford EC - Open)
Chris WA1VXH has retired as Wallingford EC after a extemporary tenure. Anyone interested in the position contact Chris or Douglas WA1SFH (DEC).
Nutmeg Hamfest (October 13, 2013)
  • Bill W1KKF President of Nutmeg Hamfest Alliance reviewed some of the 2013 event data. Generally good. Changes in gate control seemed to work.
  • Profit/loss data not yet available.
  • Bill W1KKF asked that MARC members consider their desire to continue the Nutmeg Hamfest in the future since there is little enthusiasm during the planning and development phases. Question should be addressed early in 2014.
Miscellaneous
Annual Christmas Party will be catered at Brothers Restaurant, Wallingford starting at 6:00 PM. Dinner starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday December 12th.
Annual Meeting -
  • The November business meeting is the Annual Meeting per our bylaws. K1VDF took the floor as chief teller with K1WJL and KE1AY assisting. The current officer slate, excepting Dan W1DMM, has agreed to run again. Paul K1SEZ agreed to run as Secretary,
  • Nominations from the floor were: Jim N1ZN – President, Al N1API – Vice President.
  • Nominations were closed and a secret ballot was initiated for the office of President.
  • After determining that Jim N1ZN had been elected President, Jim withdrew his nomination for Vice President.
  • The remaining uncontested slate of officers were accepted by acclamation.

    Annual officer elections are held during the Annual Meeting (Nov) per the By-laws.
    Nominations accredited to date: VP Jim N1ZN, Secretary Paul K1SEZ, and Station Activities Manager Rich WA1TRY.
    Nominations open: President and Treasurer.
    Nominations remain open until election ballots are to be cast.

•    All is ready. Deposit made to Hotel.
•    Main forum speakers have committed.
•    BoD decided that each volunteer (including VEs) gets one gratis raffle ticket.
•    Need more gate guards and ticket takers. See Jim N1ZN.
    Miscellaneous –
•    Holiday Party – Bill W1KKF raised the subject of the 2013 Christmas party at Brother’s in Wallingford on Thursday December 12th. Same as last year. A short discussion on the menu insued. Motion by N1API sec by KE1AY to go with the same menu for about $23/pp. Passed. Bill will discuss with Brother’s.

The business meeting opened at 1930 on July 11, 2013 with approximately 15 people in attendance. A quorum was present.  

Don KE1AY made a presentation of the 2013 Frank Darmofalski Scholarship to Alexis Mack a June graduate of Maloney HS in Meriden. Alexis will be matriculating at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven and majoring in Communications. She was accompanied by her mother and a family friend. A round of applause was extended.

•    Activity meeting – July 25th. Annual picnic at Hubbard Park. The activity will start early at 6:00 PM. Hot Dogs and Hambergs available, members are encouraged to bring a salad or dessert.

•    May need to adjust talk-in. Hotel building steel may interfere with input to W1KKF/R.

The February 14, 2013 business meeting was cancelled by Vice President Jim N1ZN, acting chair. Cancellation due to weather related no building access. An impromptu on-the-air net was held on the W1KKF repeater with 11 check-ins.

•    It’s over and a reported success.
•    Bill W1KKF gave a summary. Gate was lower than in the past, but the reason is not yet understood. Lower costs lead to increase in net gain. Details will be available after Alliance BOD meet and close out the event year details.
•    Club table made $530.00.
•    Thanks to those volunteering to make this a success.
