Record of Minutes of MARC for 2010

Secretary Report & Minutes of Meriden Amateur Radio Club
December 2010
President John N1GNV opened the evening activities on December 10, 2010. About 30-32 members and guests were present to enjoy the MARC Annual Christmas Party. The normal agenda was dispensed with.

The first order of business was a Motion by N1GNV second by many to accept new member Brad Little NW1K of Hamden. Passed unanimously. John challenged the assembled to match up to $100 in a seasonal contribution to the MARC Scholarship fund. A donation container was passed around.

The successful functioning of MARC is not a single person endeavor, President John N1GNV paid tribute to many of our members for their efforts in a variety of deeds over the past year and several years. This year we were not without our share.
 Bill W1KKF
Jim N1ZN
Haggie KB1HCC Dan W1DMM
Bob KB1CIW Chris WA1VXH Skip W1SKP Paul K1SEZ
Bob KB1FYL Al N1API Bob KE1AU Don KE1AY
John K1VDF Mike K1MVM Todd K1TDO Rich WA1TRY
Fred W1POP
This years Sweepstakes was very unique in that both the CW and Phone teams were able to harvest a clean sweep. John N1GNV presented the Presidential Unit Medallion to the team captains, Bill W1KKF and Bob KB1FYL. The team captains both felt the award should be presented to Rich WA1TRY for his extraordinary effort in pulling the station together and making it a competitive setting.

Dan W1DMM presented the awards and recognition to those members submitting log entries for the MARC DX Marathon Challenge Award. Dan noted that three members submitted logs in several entry modes, CW, Phone, Digital and Mixed; with all submitters achieving DXCC levels in one or more modes. Also, all HF bands were employed except 160 and all seven continents were contacted in both SSB and CW mode dispelling any excuse that propagation worked against ham operations.
•    Paul Ciezniak K1SEZ – First Place – Mixed Mode – High Power
•    Mark Mokoski K1PU – First Place – CW Mode – Low Power
•    Mark Moloski K1PU – First Place – Digital Mode – Low Power
•    Mike Macri K1MVM – First Place – Mixed Mode – Low Power
•    Mike Macri K1MVM – First Place – Phone Mode – Low power

John N1GN made presentations of a new award – Rookie of the Year – recognizing recent new hams that received their ticket and got on the air to enjoy the benefits of the Amateur Radio Service
•    Rookie of the Year – Gaianne Jenkins KB1TJD
•    Rookie of the Year – Lenny Tallman KB1TJC

Jim N1ZN made the nights highlight awards to the Ham of the Year and Elmer of the Year. These awards are voted on by the membership and represent the top praise of MARC members.
•    Ham of the Year – Rich Aubin WA1TRY
•    Elmer of the Year – Don Mitchell KE1AY

Again this year the Ladies Guild of the First United Methodist Church catered the event. All agreed the repast was professionally done and delicious. Overflowing plates from the main course did not deter members from a voracious attack on a scrumptious dessert table. Recognition for their efforts and a round of applause was rendered.

Before we closed, John N1GNV announced the challenge of a scholarship match by QuickSilver Radio was met and $225 ($125 in attendee donations and a $100 match) contributed to the Scholarship fund. A hardy MARC thanks extended to all. The evening concluded with heartfelt good wishes to all and a hope for a happy 2010.
