THANKS FOR STOPPING BY
My name is Vinnie Catalano and I live in Bristol, Rhode Island. When I
became a ham in 1975 as a novice my first call was WN1ZFS. In 1976 I
upgraded to Advanced class and my call was changed to WA1ZFS.
For my first twelve years I operated CW and occasionally operated phone.
Due to arthritis in my hands I had to stop CW operation and switch
to phone.
I enjoy ham radio at home and mobile. Before retiring as a long haul
trucker for 48 years, the later 25 years I was fortunate to be able to
operate two meters and 70 centimeters as well as HF in my 18 wheeler
aquiring WAS, WAC and 73 DX countries. I operated on many DX nets and was
able to provide contacts from different states. Also I operated on 10 meters
often to give my 10x10 number to those collecting 10x10 numbers from various states.
Since I retired my mobile operating is from our motor home when we are
traveling the country side. The motor home is equipped with 2 meters, 70 cm
and the all important HF station. I belong to three local radio clubs as
well as the ARRL, QCWA and AMSAT. Currently I am a VE and the Official
Observer Coordinator for the Rhode Island section. I operate SSB, AM, FM
and other digital modes and am a avid DXer and contester.
About my present call W1AOM which I acquired in 1997 from a friend
and mentor Ed Crean which died in 1995.
To those who helped me to get this far I first want to thank my wife
Valorie (WA1ZZ) Ed Crean SK (W1AOM) and Reeve Harper SK ( K1STU ).
See you in the pileups. 73 Vinnie W1AOM
