My name is Vinnie and I live in Dade City, Florida (formerly of Bristol, Rhode Island). When I became a ham in 1975 as a novice 1st callsign was WN1ZFS. In 1976 I upgraded to Advanced class and my call was changed to WA1ZFS. For my 1st twelve years I operated CW and occasionally operated phone. Due to arthritis in my hands I had to stop CW and switch to phone.
I enjoy amateur radio at home and mobile. Before retiring as a long-haul trucker for 48 years (the later 25 years) I was fortunate to be able to operate two meters and 70 centimeters as well as HF in my 18 wheeler acquiring WAS, WAC and 73 DX countries. I operated on many DX nets and was able to provide contacts from different states. I operated on 10 meters often to give my Ten-Ten number to various states.
Since I retired my mobile operation is from our motorhome when we are traveling.
I belonged to three local radio clubs in New England as well as the ARRL, QCWA and AMSAT. While in Rhode Island I was a VE and the Official Observer Coordinator for the state of Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts section.
I operate SSB, AM, FM and other digital modes, an avid DXer and contester, QSL manager for three DX stations. Encouragement to pursue amateur radio came from Reeve Harper Jr. (now a Silent Key - (K1STU), Ed Crean SK (W1AOM), and my wife, Valorie - WA1ZZ.
