Grid Square EM48ut

Hi, my name is Gary.  I'm 56 years old, married to the same understanding woman for 32 years.  We have no children, but two dogs, Clancy and Smiley, that are a lot of fun to watch and play with.  My main hobbies are Radio Control Sailboats, and Woodworking, and now Amateur Radio. I've only been licensed since 1998 but have been having a lot of fun. I'm a member of the St. Louis Boeing Employees Amateur Radio Society (BEARS). Click HERE to visit the BEARS web site. I'm also a member of the Suburban Radio Club (SRC). Click HERE to visit the SRC web site.

I enjoy working 6 Meters SSB as well as 2 Meter FM mobile. I normally monitor the BEARS repeater on 147.06 +. I participate in St. Louis County ARES activities as well as public service events.

We are constructing a new home and I will have a GlenMartin Engineering 70' guyed tower with some good antennas at the top. Much better than the Butternut 9 band vertical now in use.

This is my VHF antenna. It's a dual band Comet GP-6 . It's mounted above my TV antenna. I'm hoping to add a ground based or Glen Martin roof tower to carry 6 Meter and 2 Meter beams. Currently my 6 Meter antenna is a dipole about two feet above the roof. That a beam would be an improvement is an understatement, but I have worked both coasts and Canada with the dipole. Rig is an Icom 706 Mk Zero.

This is my mobile set up. A Yaesu FT8100 on a home made wood mount. The mount drops into the console and is held steady by friction. Power is supplied a direct battery connection protected with two 20 Ampere fuses. Antenna is a Comet SBB-5 with a Comet WS-1 window mount. Looking for a better mount, but height restrictions entering my garage have me stumped for now.

This is Clancy.  His only mission in life is to fetch the newspaper and sleep on my lap while I read or watch TV.

This is Smiley.  We think she is a Chow/Huskey mix, but don't know for sure.  Her mission in life is to chase squirrels and rabbits.

This is one of the squirrels Smiley likes to chase.  She really gets upset when the squirrels are on the feeder and we don't let her out to chase them away. She can't understand why we let them steal our peanuts!

The squirrels like to torment the dogs by peering in at the door to see if we'll come out to give them more peanuts.  I built the feeder from cedar after seeing one at the feed store.  It's fun to watch them lift the lid and remove the peanuts.

I've been employed at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing for 36 years working in Product Support.  I am currently working on Information Protection in what is called the "Core". This just means I'm not assigned to a particular program such as F15 or F18, but support all of them. Product Support's task is to provide the Technical Manuals, Training, and Spare/Repair parts recommendations that will enable our customers to fly and maintain their aircraft.

If you'd like to contact me regarding R/C Sailboats or Woodworking, or particularly Amateur Radio, I'd like to hear from you.
Here's my address: [email protected]

Here's a link to the R/C sailboat club I participate in. They are the St. Louis Eagles. An unusual name for a R/C sailing club, but it started out many years ago as a R/C Soaring club and evolved to sailboats.
