fd98_1t.jpg Field Day 1998 - Turning off US Hwy 385 South of Marathon, TX and North of Big Bend National Park. This is actually the "good" part of the road. Twenty-six miles and two hours later you arrive at the San Francisco Ranch. That's 26 miles of rocks and dry creek crossings.
fd98_2t.jpg Field Day 1998 - The view from our operating position. The mountains in the far distance are in Mexico. The Mexican border at the closest point is about 14 miles.

fd85_1t.jpg I'm not absolutely sure of the year on this picture, but it is one of the Lewisville Texins Amateur Radio Club (LTARC) Field Day operations, and is about 1985.
wb5luafd_1t.jpg This is Al Ward, W5LUA, at a Field Day of the LTARC sometime in the mid 80's. Al's a VHF/UHF/microwave guy, and we had to have this picture of him working CW on 40-meters. It took a pipe wrench to get him down that low.
fd84_4t.jpg Again, I'm not absolutely sure of the year on this picture, but it is one of the LTARC Field Day operations, and is about 1985.
fd84_1t.jpg Marcus Wagner, N5GEJ, Neal Vetrano, KA5RBI, and Marty Drift, WB2FOU, as we get ready to put up the tower at the LTARC Field Day in 1984.
fd84_2t.jpg The tower at Field Day 1984.
fd84_3t.jpg Larry Jones, WD0AFR (now N5OSG), operating two-meter SSB at Field Day 1984. No, he did NOT hold the antenna up for the entire contest!
fd83_1t.jpg Fred Gerken, KC5RT, and Don Hice, WB5TVI, operating from a city park in The Colony, TX, during Field Day 1983 with the LTARC.
fd81_2t.jpg Our operating position for the LTARC's first ever Field Day operation in 1981. How about that tri-bander at 10 feet?!?!
fd81_1t.jpg Me operating at Field Day 1981.

Here's a couple of pictures of my Navy friend Terry Travis, K5WNH, taken at a Field Day he did in Colorado in 1981. The text by each picture is what he wrote on the back of the pictures.

k5wnhfd81_2t.jpg "Decided to make it a real challenge . . . . 1 Watt, 1 antenna, and a straight key! Oh, the arm cramps!!! 250 contacts June '81 K5WNH/0"
k5wnhfd81_1t.jpg "A dipole in these trees?"
