Just to add a little more info, what people are really estimating with that
formula is the frequency content of the driver output signal. It is a good
way to estimate channel bandwidth requirements. If you are dealing with
multiple drivers, you will need to consider the fastest edge rate
encountered. To avoid over speccing, you should keep in mind that the t-line
you are driving into will slow the edge rate, so at a point further down the
line, the frequency content could be much less than it is at the driver
output. On the other side of the coin, you should also keep in mind that the
formula is derived from an estimate of the half-power bandwidth of the
signal. Only you can decide if that is conservative enough for your tastes.
