What everyone is trying to say is that you have to get the SI tool that best
fits your product or group of products. Every vendor has good offerings.
From a design, as opposed to a marketing standpoint, you need to match the
capabilities that you need to the simulation packages available. The other
guys were alluding to the fact that each sales person will tell you that
they have the best package...that's their job. If you are in a
manufacturing environment, I would suggest comparing the big 3, Cadence
(largest market share), Innoveda (been around longer than anybody), and
Mentor (relative newcomer compared to the other two, but they've been around
twice as long as you've been shaving). If you are in a non-manufacturing
environment, the choices expand considerably as do the feature sets and the
complexity of the problems that you can model. Some examples are: Applied
Simulation Technologies, Sigrity, Quantic EMC, and the grand daddy of them
all, Ansoft. If you are doing research, you will need one of these more
advanced packages.
The other part, the "unspoken" part is that this is a design engineering
forum, not a marketing forum, and you just asked a loaded question. All of
the vendors monitor this site because it is the cutting edge of what is
going on is SI today. In the past, one or more of the vendors would respond
in glowing and often inaccurate and biased terms about their product and why
it was the best....and then we would have "vendor wars" on SI list. This
really pisses off the design people who use this channel for information
exchange, which is what this is for, Inmyung, you and I and the other
engineers helping each other out. You will note that the best vendors keep
their comments brief, purely technical, and refrain from proselytizing.
Having said all of that, there is no short cut. You have to review all
software packages that you think are relevant to your environment, and then
make your best guess at which one will work for your specific needs.
