Hartmut Gumpert was an engineer for the Deutsche Welle relay station in Kigali, Rwanda. For several years he was the only very active ham in Rwanda.

Hartmut frustrated many a DXer with his operating style. He loved to ragchew, and if any impatient operators tried to break in, he either ignored them or made a passing comment about the "QRM". If the pileup got too big, he would just disappear.
