My 9MHz SSB GENERATOR
Model SG 9
By MIZUHO COM, Co. Japan
I have been Licenced Amateur since 1987 and truly for all these years I have been looking out for a descent homebrew project for the HF band. All these year I have being just sniffing arround for some good project to start with until the advant of Internet in my life. I took a shy at the various projects available in the VU2 land namely the NR-60, ATS-1 and a few tries on my own design. A couple of year back on of my friends working with ERA - VU2ST came up to me with a small ready made kit of a SSB generator which Saad Ali had bought (a few quantity) from Japan to popularise homebrewing in India. I took a look and it and fell in love with it. I immediately grabbed one to start off with.

It is a full SSB Generator Module, readymade, with a 9Mhz Filter on it developed by Mizuho Com Co. Japan. The one thing of the project that fascinated me was that one could use it for any band and just required a Transverter for the respective band to be on the Air. As there were a couple of these lying arround another friend of mine , Nitin William (VU3GAO) picked up one and immediately started working on it. It was his report that really peped up my interest in building a neat project arround this module. He told me the module had excellent sensitivity and good AGC a feature which is very important in our field.
The circuit diagram and block diagram of the module is pretty simple and straight forward. It employs a SN76514 chip for Rx Detector and Tx Modulator. A challenging part would be replacing the SN76514 chip with our faithful MC1496. Any takers ?
