The community of the Arc
Mark Shepard
Simple Productions, Pacific Grove, CA.
-- Tells the story of the intentional community 'the arc' - setup by Lance de Vasto, a 'follower' of Gandhi - in France. The narration is good but then I feel that the author has written the book more as a pamphletish_introduction rather than as a detailed criticism. In this context, only a touristy version has been presented in this book, IMO. Anyway, it would be nice to know about the current status of this effort... Was talking about this, to a frencb (in Sewagram) who had come all the way from Paris in search of Bapukuti. He did not seem to be aware of this effort, but felt happy and surprised about this! May be the 'Arc' is going to have another core member...

Gandhi Today - A report on Mahathma Gandhi's Successors
Mark Shepard
Simple Productions, Pacific Grove, CA.
1988.

-- A nice book on a few movements / individuals who have been torch bearers of equitable social orders in their own right. Deals with the evolution of the Sarvodaya movement at length. I wish the author writes more about the youth who are also beginning to rediscover what Gandhi stood for... May be a sequel is in order here... But then, Rajni Bakshi has written an excellant book called 'Bapu Kuti' - published by Penguin India...
