Ham society challenges licence denial
Chennai, Aug 9: The Madras High Court has ordered notice on a writ petition praying for a direction to the authorities concerned to grant licence to establish and maintain an Amateur Wireless Telegraph Station as provided under the Indian Wireless Telegraphs (Amateur Service) Rules, 1979.Justice P.D. Dinakaran ordered notice to the Telecommunications Department on a writ petition from K.R. Ahamed Mohideen, assistant secretary of Kayalpattinam Ham Radio Society, Tuticorin district, challenging the rejection of amateur radio licence.The petitioner contended he had successfully completed the Amateur Station Operator's Certificate Examinations in February 1992. But, he was not given the licence to operate an amateur wireless set. He made several representations to the authorities concerned. But his request was rejected.
