Bicycling

My earliest memory of riding a bike, was when I was thirteen, and my friends teaching me how to ride. After several lessons, I learnt to ride - brilliant.

In the part of Hong Kong that I lived in more than forty years ago, it was not safe for me to go out on bicycle on my own. After moving home to New Territories and it has changed now.

One day I saw my friend’s bike. I was amazed how good it was to ride. As I was overweight at this time and needed exercise, riding a bike was a good idea - especially as going out for a run I did not like!

Well, that was how I got started on riding my bicycle. So I bought my first new bike - a GT Aggressor 1.0 in 2001.

At first my challenge was a 16 kilometers route that I tried to do in the morning. I was exhausted when I finished this ride.

Soon a friend suggested I get a bike computer (this you fit to the bike and can tell how fast you are going, and often other things, such as average speed, how long you have been riding and what the time is). At first I thought it was a silly idea, but I was persuaded to get one. Now every time I went for my ride, I had to go faster, do it quicker. Always I checked the numbers on my computer to see if I had improved - this is still true today!
