Q 1. How many non-profit making amateur radio societies, clubs and associations are there in Hong Kong?

A 1. There are 4 non-profit making amateur radio societies, clubs and associations that we know of in Hong Kong and they are:-

1. Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society (HARTS);
2. Japanese Amateur Radio Overseas Club (JAROC);
3. English Language Amateur Radio Communications Society (ELARCS);
4. And us - Hong Kong Amateur Radio DX Association (HARDXA).

Q 3. Who is the National Society in Hong Kong?

A 3. The National Society in Hong Kong representing the interests of all radio amateurs is "Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society" - HARTS.



Q 4. Who is the International Amateur Radio Union Region 3 representative in Hong Kong?

A 4. The IARU representative organisation in Hong Kong is "Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society" - HARTS and they appoint an IARU officer for all dealings with IARU region 3. For more information, you should contact HARTS.



Q 5. Who is the telecommunications authority in Hong Kong which is responsible for issuance of amateur radio licenses?

A 5. The reponsible Government Department is "Office of The Telecommunications Authority" - OFTA.



Q 6. How can I contact OFTA about amateur radio licence issuance matters in Hong Kong?

A 6. OFTA have a website where information may be downloaded and their office is situated at: 29/F Wu Chung House 213 Queen's Road East Wanchai Hong Kong



Q 7. Are licensing exams available and who do I contact?

A 7. Licensing exams are run regularly by OFTA and you should contact OFTA in respect of examination time table, application forms, fees etc.



Q 8. What classes of amateur radio licence are there in Hong Kong?

A 8. There are currently only two classes of licence the class B licence which is for VHF/UHF operation only on amateur radio frquencies from 50MHz upwards and may be applied for upon passing of the Radio Amateurs Exam - RAE run by OFTA , and then there is the class A licence which allows operation on all amateur radio frequencies available in Hong Kong on passing the RAE and an additional 12 word per minute morse code test run by OFTA.



Q 9. How often are the morse code test conducted?

A 9. Our present understanding is that OFTA runs these morse test once a month, but you should check with OFTA on the exam date and fee payable.



Q 10. Is there a QSL Bureau run in Hong Kong?

A 10. Yes, it is sponsored and run by the National Society - HARTS and is available for use by members free of charge. Non-members may also use this facility at a nominal charge, please contact HARTS for more details.
