Peninsula Amateur Radio Club
WV3J (35) - Paul Helbert in Broadway, VA.
VE3SIC (64) - I have been out
of the radio scene for about five years. I used to be considered the QRP guru
in my area. At that time I used a Yaesu TF101s (that's the all transistor version)
toned down to 2 Watts output. I used gel cell batteries that were salvaged from
security alarms. They were constantly being topped up with a trickle charge. I
found that I could run them for 24 hours without a recharge! Because of antenna
restrictions, I experimented with various indoor designs with great success. Almost
all of my shack aux. equipment was homebrew. I had also designed and built a 14m -
250mw transceiver using a NE602. It worked quite well.
Now for the sad part. My x-wife liberated me of my complete shack. Now for the happy
part. I'm getting back into the game! I have applied to get my old callsign
back. The lady at the office said that it should be no problem.

K4AHK (49) - Bill Harding in Burke, VA. Bill
says: Since I live on an 85ft lot w/no trees and community regs which allow no outside
antennas of any sort, I have yet to find a decent antenna solution for 75/80 meters. This
group may be the final incentive to build an acceptable solution.
KT4AN (38) - Mike Pendergast.

W4ONC (30) - Joe Riplinger from Norfolk, VA.
Joe uses the Heath HW8 and a Radio Shack HW100 10 meter rig for his QRPing. He has a
Kenwood TS-520 that is presently in the repair shop due to a lightning strike. he finds
that QRP is the best challenge in Amateur Radio. When he was able to work a "ZL"
with only 2 watts he was amazed and now says he is "hooked".
KI4PS (33) - Jerry in Carrollton, VA. Jerry
runs a Ten Tec Argo 556 at 5 watts and an extended G5RV. Jerry is a neat guy, I've met him
a couple of times..

KO4PY (58) - Brent of Lake Gaston, NC:
I have a place on ake Gaston and frequently work QRP into VA. At the lake I
run 1 watt into dipoles on 40 and 80, plus 1 watt into a loop for 20. Rigs are DSWL 80,
SWL40+ and SWL 20. Also run a Yaesu 757 GX II from time to time. 72 and GL de KO4PY -
KK4R (8) - Robert Neece of Yorktown VA.
Robert likes to build QRP radios, mostly kits due to limited time and like to operate in
QRP events. His 100% working radios are NorCal 40A, OHR100 for 20m, 80M crystal
transmitter, 30m crystal transmitter and an TS 940 and has added a Elecraft K1
and K2 to his group of fine radios. He is still building kits but also finds
some time to build small things from scratch. There isn't enough time to
operate as much as he used to, so maybe it is time to slack up on building and
get on the air more.
WK4RC (63) Bob of Oak Creek, WI/
Brooksville, FL. Bob operates a station consisting of multiple Ten-Tec rigs a TS-450S and
assorted vertical and wire antennas. He likes to rag chew and contest. Bob is a fan of

KK4RF (24) - Marty from Chuckatuck VA
(Suffolk area). Marty has been a ham since 1968 and he has been involved in QRP for about
the past 12 years. He's built the tuna-tin2, several two-fers, two direct conversion xcvrs
for 40 meter CW, a TAC-1 xcvr, and recently he built an old tune rig (6AG7, 6L6) for 40
meter CW. His antenna is a dipole fed with ladder-line and matched to the various rigs
with a homebrew antenna tuner.
N4ST (22) - Jim; I just stumbled across the
VQS page, did not know Virginia had a QRP organization, this is great! Sign me up, the
check is in the mail, ;-).I am using a Ten-Tec 1320 on 20 meters, 3 watts out to a wire
dipole at 36 feet strung between trees. Santa brought me this TenTec kit last Christmas
and I have dropped some strong hints for a 40M or 15M version for this year!

KF4UCC (36) - George in Chesapeake, VA....
Been CW Operator since 1957 but ham for two years. Started SWL'ing and scanning about
eight years ago and then decided if I was going to have antenna farm - I should probably
get a license. Rigs/Antennas: KNWD TS 520se puts out about 80 watts thru my G5RV abt 60 ft
high. RCI 2950 (Ranger) 10 mtr rig puts out 4-8 watts cw thru homebrew dipole abt 20ft
high made from #10 house wire and balun from medicine bottles. 15 Meter rig named
"Little Joe" made from board bought from Dans small parts on the net for $13.50.

WB4YEX (25) - Darly in Harrisonburg, VA: I
have been a ham since 1976 but never run qrp. I have always done a lot of backpacking and
for the past several years have been thinking about getting a qrp rig to take along. I am
in the process of researching the rigs etc. to make a purchase this spring. I have joined
a couple qrp email lists to make inquiries as to equipment etc. That is how I found out
about your organization. What I am planning on doing this summer is posting to qrp lists
when, where, what freq and what time I will be operating from trips. I am going to print
up a custom qsl card for each trip to send to those I work. Daryl Cline WB4YEX

W6AXM (46) - Gar in Garden Grove, CA...name
here is Gar and Callsigns are K2IQR & W6AXM. AXM is my personal call and IQR belongs
to the company club. Before that it belonged to me -When I lived in Yankee land (New
Jersey). Current QTH is Garden Grove, CA, about 2 miles SW of Disneyland. My standard QRP
rigs are a QRP Plus and SG-2020. The 2020 is only used to batter down the walls of KW rigs
during pileups however so it really doesn't get too much use. My station antennas vary
between a tunable 36" loop and and ancient Mini-Products C-4 coaxial vertical. Most
of what I do is on SSB with a smattering on QRS CW. Of course when I really want to be
QRPp I use a KnightSmite $13 transceiver with tiny DC-DC converter that gives me 12 volts
when operated off of old Polariod filmpack batteries which will power it for about a week
straight. I also have a Collins KWM-2a station but it's more of the day-to day sked
meeting radio than just-for-fun radio. It generally feeds a Moseley CL-33 or a G5RV
multiband doublet. 72/73 to all de Gar - W6AXM
KF7ET (66) - Cal from Shelly Idaho.

My shack includes a Yaesu FT 920, NorCal 38 Special, Emtech NW 8020 and a monster Pentium
machine (homebrew) for logging it all in. My tower houses a Cushcraft A4S at about
55 feet, as well as a homebrew coaxial dipole, designed much like the double bazooka, cut
for 80M (tunable thru 10M). WHAT A BLAST!
