West of Alice Springs

Pictures to the west of Alice Springs, paralleling the MacDonnell range, from around 80 to 120 km

Palm Valley.

Palm Valley is in the Finke River National Park area, about one hundred kilometres (100 km) west of Alice Springs. This is a truly remarkable area as the area surrounding is "semi-arid" with little-to-no rain. This picture was taken about a week to two weeks following a fairly good rain in the area and there was quite a bit of water that had been collected. The Cabbage Palms are unique as they are only found in the Palm Valley area.

Another view. With the red rocks on the left-hand side of the picture, one realizes that you are never to far away from the remainder of the area -- the "Red Centre".

Mount Sonder.

Mount Sonder is a high spot about one hundred kilometres (100 km) west of Alice spings along the West MacDonnell chain of hills.
