Maritime Spark Transmitter Sound

Listen to a sample from a tape I was given of recreations of spark transmissions on the North Atlantic about the year 1921.

The full 10 minute .mp3 version, with reduced noise and improved frequency response by courtesy of David, N1EA, is here (3.6M).

The tape was given to me by Richard, VK7RZ and came from Phil Andrews. Phil, who died a few years ago, was the Curator of Zoology and Applied Science at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

The creator of this particular tape with added identifications is unknown, but it is apparently based on recreations of spark signals made for members of the Antique Wireless Association, possibly by W6AX for an AWA convention about 1965.

They certainly sound realistic and I imagine give a very good idea of how 600 metres sounded in the early 1920s.
