Beacons
Currently our Club maintains a single beacon for 6m on 50.315 MHz using the callsign VK5RBV.
The beacon is built from a
Philips FM 828E that was donated to the club for the beacon project.
Power is
about 20 watts into a single 'HALO' antenna, giving omnidirectional horizontal
polarisation.
Grid Sq is PF95
Brian, vk5bc was the motivating force behind the project, keeping all concerned focused on the end goal
The modification of the FM828 RF deck was undertaken by Ian, vk5aic. Ian has worked hard to produce a very clean and stable transmitter that is now regularly heard all over VK.
Norm, vk5nr generously donated his time and raw materials to produce the PCB for the beacon keyer, along with sundry bits that were needed. Thanks Norm.
Peter, vk5zlx cobled together the keyer for the beacon from the PCB produced by Norm. Ian, undertook the final integration of the RF deck and keyer.
Some pictures of the beacon are shown below. (click to enlarge)
