VK4RIL Wind Generator Project - 2012

Work on the wind generator project started on the 31st Dec 2011
and was completed on the 22nd January 2012

By the kind donation of John VK4FJFM's workshop and supply of steel, Ken VK4QH,
Wayne VK4HS, Alan VK4SN, and John got together to assemble the support pole
required to hold up the wind generator.  Our progress is depicted in pictures below.

The mast consists of two sturdy angle steel sections supporting the main swinging
arm that can be lowered to allow access to the assembly and maintenance of the generator.

The solid axle housing is fitted to the arm and welded in place.

Assembly of the arm to the supports.

Supports bolted to the arm and nuts tack welded in place.

The fitting of the arm set the spacing of the supports and the supports
are fixed by welding 4 right angle brackets in place.

John welds in the top support.

Top support finished.

Pulley assembly

Wayne and John thread the pulley line.

Pulley line finished.

Bob VK4BYX, John, Ken & Al prepare the hole.

7th Jan 2012

Tractor in place ready to lift mast on to Alan's trailer.

Mast on Al's trailer.  To the repeater site we go.

Pole slid off the top of the trailer bars and straight into the hole.

How good are we?  Guessed hole at 1.2 meters deep and the marker is spot on.

8th Jan 2012

Ken QH, Dennis OC, Bob BYX, and Al SN turn up for the concreteing.
The mast is moved to the center of the hole and guy ropes are used
to keep the pole vertical while the concrete is poured and cured.

Concreteing almost done.

22nd Jan 2012
Wayne VK4HS, Al VK4SN, Ken VK4QH and son Kyle turn up to
finalise the project.

Above & Below:
Ken lowers the pole ready for the final step of running cable and
attaching the generator.

Wayne digging trench while we take photos.
It's not every day Wayne works this hard. (hihi)

Al feeds the conduit over the cabling.

DC Cable feeds up the center of the arm.

Concrete yet to be filled over conduit entry to the trench.

Al drills an exit hole below the top support to feed the DC cabling up to the generator.

Ken fed the cable through and fitted the conduit over the wires for safety.

Blade fitting.  Ken, Wayne, Al.

Fitting blade assembly to generator

Two bolts screwed into generator fitting with 2 U-bolts clamping down
on the slit cut into the pole.  The U-bolts were pushed up against the
bolts to stop them from coming undone.
