During the weekend of August 21st and 22nd, the LVREC put on a demonstration of
amateur radio
for the public,
to celebrate 100 years of organised radio in Australia.
.
The Laidley Youth Center was chosen for the event as it was centrally located in
Laidley,
had close on 100 carparks
and all the facilities required for a weekend event.

The logistics for this event were huge. Acquisition of
the venue and setting up were minor chores compared
to actually getting the information out to the public. Advertising played a major role
in the lead up to the day.
Some 264 posters of various sizes were placed in prominent places througout the district and many
businesses
were all to proud to assist in displaying them.
Media releases were sent to TV stations, Radio stations, schools
and many news papers as well as like clubs
and organisations. A 15 minute interview with the clubs treasurer, Alan VK4SN, was
held on Saturday by the
ABC.
Club members produced signs, information leaflets, and placards
showing various aspects of the amateur
radio hobby. These were on display at the center over the two day event.
So far, the club holds the most number of contacts for the 3 days. 927 in
all. Statistics are at the end of this page. All members and volunteers put in a stirling effort, and
it's certainly one event to be proud of.
