NEWS UPDATE

In early 2012 I headed south into NSW to have a look around and attend the Wyong Hamfest in February. It has been several years since I have had a chance to poke around and say Hi to many hams I have had the priviledge to have worked on HF over the intervening years.

Whilst we all too often forget that visiting any of these club sponsored events is a 'social' event, we sometimes expect them to be full of displays of 'new' equipment and accessories and seem to forget that these events allow us to spend some face to face time with other members of this great hobby. We don't always expect these events to be a learning experience, but they can provide us with a unique opportunity to learn 'new tricks' and meet members of our hobby who have branched out into specialised areas of communications and this is one of the many ways we can be enthused yet again.

The relaxed journey took several weeks and the routing was changed from the original idea of going via the Parkes Radiotelescope but due to unexpected rainfall and serious flooding I was forced to choose another route away from the affected areas.

Wyong was a great day out. Although some folks thought the numbers were down, it was still gratifying to meet a lot of fellow amateurs and look at some new gear on display by the dealers.

I set up a display of the Elecraft gear along with VK4XA (Jeff) who also showed off his Elecraft equipment and we had the 4 element tri-band yagi in the air and worked some DX and showed some bystanders what the K3's could do.

Currently I am at Mt. Surprise in the far north of the state and as the WX is real nice this time of year I will spend several weeks in the sun.
