IRON KEMBLA RADIO ROOM

Marconi radio station from BHP bulk carrier Iron Kembla, Installed by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries in 1985 at the time of construction of the ship.

For decades radio station like this have ruled the waves, however the GMDSS system has made them obselete. This radio will live on however. Thanks to a group of dedicated enthusiasts this radio was removed intact from the ship instead of the usual blowtorch treatment. They even marked all the cables, making my job substantially easier. My heartfelt thanks to them for their assistance and their efforts in packing it and arranging freight to Brisbane.

The station consists of the following components:

Console 4 Station Console

Challenger Main Transmitter

The Warden 4C is a bridge watchkeeping receiver. It will detect a 2182kHz two tone alarm signal and automatically de-mute. Can also be configured to automatically demute during silence periods.

Survivor lifeboat set. Contains handcrank generator, or can operate from 24V DC. Contains presets for distress frequencies. Has inbuilt dummy load for testing purposes
