CPRC-26
Built by Rogers Majestic of Canada, the CPRC-26 is similar to the PRC-6. It is a six channel crystal controlled VHF transmitter receiver set. It was designed to
strap to the operators webbing. The battery is housed in the base of the unit. Construction is of modules which are easily removed and replaced.
COMMENTARY
The CPRC-26 is very similar to the PRC-6, however has many advantages over the PRC-6.
Covering 6metre FM, the CPRC-26 uses a separate handset or headset. The set itself may be strapped to the webbing of the operating, or carried by using a strap. It has six crystal controlled channels compared to the one available in the PRC-6,
and the battery may changed without exposing the electronics, as there is a separate battery compartment in the base of the radio. Antenna is a goose neck whip antenna, however a BNC outlet allows alternate
antennas to be used. Front panel controls are extremely simple. There is a channel switch, and an on off switch which also selects soft or loud mode. Unlike the PRC-6, the CPRC-26 is easily serviced, with modular construction.
Many of the modules being interchangeable with those of the PRC-10. This unit covers the amateur 6metre band, so has potential for some fun. Short range only. Major difficulty is batteries, however DC-DC converters can be built
or purchased for this set.
