CHALLENGER
Challenger is a high power SSB transmitter covering the bands allocated for marine use.
The transmitter consists of a solid framework with the various components of the transmitter mounted in it.
The transmitter operates of three phase AC. The power unit is mounted in the base of the transmitter. The synthesizer allows frequency and mode selection. The operator selects the band and types the kHz component of the required frequency in via the keypad. The mode, signal source and power level are also set by the synthesizer. The RF unit contains the Drive Amplifier, Power Amplifier and antenna tuning section of the transmitter. The final valves are 4CX350. These are in a pressurized cage. The transmitter will not operate unless there is sufficient air pressure in the PA cage.
Antenna Switch
The antenna switch can connect the Main or Reserve transmitter to an antenna or an inbuilt MF or HF dummy load.

Power Unit
Most of the componentry in this drawer is associated with the HT supply.
The base of the transmitter contains four massive toroidal transformers. Three for the three phases of the HT supply and one for the remaining supplies.
