A little
about me. My name is Bob Toll and the QTH is Croydon, an outer eastern suburb of Melbourne
about 30 km. from downtown Melbourne. I am 62, now retired (I was in the printing
industry). Amateur radio has been an interest since I first built a crystal set when I was
about 8. I sat for my ticket first in 1964 and missed out because the standard was much
higher and exam tougher than today. I got interested in 27 meg. CB in the late eighties
and did all the challenging things that Amateurs usually do like organizing field days (I
still hold the record for the longest antenna to antenna copy on 27 meg sideband, 12
watts: 449 km!). In 1998 a mutual amateur friend suggested I try for the ticket again,
which I did and passed easily but without code. Now the need for code has been dropped a s
a requirement I am having a ball on HF for the first time!
Equipment here includes rigs
for 2 m. and 70 cm. For HF I use a very old Yaesu FT707 with a G5RV antenna at about 40
