Purpose

The Manly Warringah Radio Society holds examinations for Australian Amateur Radio licenses. We do this not as a way of gaining funds, but of fostering the use of Amateur Radio. For this reason, our exam costs are kept to a bare minimum. We barely break even.

Contact MWRS

To order the examination papers from the WIA we need your application and payment at least three weeks before the proposed date of the examination. Application forms are at the club.

  • Application & payment may be made at the club on a Wednesday evening (preferred)

  • OR
  • We could mail a form to you to be returned by mail** to the Post Office Box address on the Homepage.

** Note: this mailbox only gets cleared once-a-month so leave PLENTY of time!

To talk directly with an exam invigilator you may telephone the club on Wednesday evenings after 7:30pm on (02)9450-1746

Exam fees

The following table summarises which exams you need to take for each licence grade (includes GST.).

Theory/Regulations + Practical Assessment Standard & Advanced Theory Standard & Advanced Regulations Practical Assessment (taken seperately) Event Fee *
Foundation $25     $20 $14
Standard   $25 $20 $20 $14
Advanced   $25 $20 $20 $14

The minimum cost for sitting the exams at one exam event (with no previous passes)
Foundation exams = $25 + $14 = $39
Standard exams = $25 + $20 + $14 = $59
Advanced exams = $25 + $20 + $14 = $59

Cheques are to be crossed and made out to "Manly-Warringah Radio Society Incorporated".

  • A new innovation to the examination procedure is that you are assessed at the time of the examination if an Assessor is available. If successful you can complete the necessary application forms to be sent to the ACMA at the assessment and pay the appropriate License Fee, currently $59.00, at the same time.
  • All new candidates for Amateur Radio Licenses must attempt the Practical Assessment. The cost of the Practical Assessment is included in the Theory Assessment and the taken alone segment applies to those candidates who have been assessed as not yet competent and wish to be re- assessed, or those candidates whose Recognition of Prior Learning requires Practical Asessment.
  • The Event Fee is split among the number of candidates at the one Assessment sitting. It covers the cost to MWRS of postage and incidental expenses. For instance, 2 candidates would pay $7.00 each, 3 candidates would pay $5.00 each. etc..

    * Event Fee

A nominal Event Fee of $14 applies to all exam sittings, divided amongst the exam participants. If more than one person sits for an examination per event, then a partial rebate of the event fee will apply, e.g. if two persons sit at a single event then the event fee will be $7/person (rounded up to the nearest dollar).

    Number of people attending 1 2 3
    Event fee per person $14 $7 $5

To save everyone being "mucked around" we will charge everyone the full $14 event fee, and on the day (depending on the number of people who show up) we will provide a partial refund.

    Location

The location of the examination will be at the club rooms of the Manly Warringah Radio Society at the Volunteer Services Centre, Terrey Hills.
