MWRS Emergency Communications

The MWRS provides assistance in emergency communications and training exercises for WICEN NSW and other volunteer groups, such  Rural Fire Service, SES and RVCP.   Some MWRS club members are also members of these organisations as well.

We gain further experience in emergency message handling skills, by providing communications for local community events.

Some of the events we have provided  communication assistance to are:

  • RVCP boating time trials on Pittwater, providing communications between, Start, Finish and intermediate checkpoints.

  • SES communications, during the Newcastle Earthquake, providing radio operators and equipment to convey emergency communications traffic between SES in Newcastle to SES Headquarters in the city, until normal telephone communications were restored.

  • Rural Bush Fire Brigade, during the January 94 bush fires, providing radio operators to assist in operating radios in tankers.

  • Rural Bush Fire and SES training exercises, again providing radio operators for field and base communications

  • North Side Riding Club horseriding cross-country events (annually)

  • Forest Hills Pony Club horseriding cross-country events (annually)

  • Kelleyville Riding Club horseriding cross-country events (annually)

  • And to  local sporting community events such as triathalons,   etc. within the Manly, Warringah & Pittwater areas.
