Robert (Bob) Layton 1935 - 2002
Bob
was an avid CBer for many years prior to retiring and attributed his keen interest
in radio, along with all the fun he had and the tremendous amount of fantastic
people that he met the deciding factors in his decision to become an amateur.
Bob's only wish was that he had discovered amateur radio earlier in life.
Bobs main love in life was helping young people discover the wonderful world
of HAM RADIO. He was instramental in setting up an amateur radio course for
the local Air Cadet Squadron and had a 100% pass rate in his first year.
A good friend of Bobs once told him that "YOUTH
ARE THE FUTURE OF AMATEUR RADIO, PASS ALONG YOUR KNOWLEDGE!" and
one thing Bob loved to do was pass on his knowledge. Without Bobs knowledge,
I would not be an amateur today and neither would my son as he was one of the
Air Cadets Bob passed his knowledge on to.
Bob
was an active member of the Miramichi Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, Miramichi
Community Based Policeing, EMO Communications Group and the International Repeater
Group. He was also a regular check-in on the Pow Wow Club, Earlybird Transcontinental
Net and the Maritime 80 Meter Net.
Bob will surely be missed by all those he touched, either in person or on
the airways.
